Domain was established in 1999 by Moorfield Group. Through managing its diverse portfolio of assets in many areas and sectors of the UK market, Moorfield Group recognised there was an unsatisfied demand for quality student and key worker accommodation in most major cities.

The principle behind this initiative was, and remains, to meet the market need for accommodation that is of a high standard, but making it affordable to students and key workers. As a result, Domain provides modern accommodation close to educational and/or workplace locations. Room sizes are typically larger than the average competitive provision, and have en-suite facilities, satellite TV and the latest IT connectivity within safe and secure self-contained and well maintained campus developments.

Following extensive research, the first opportunity to satisfy this demand arose in Liverpool and, as a result, Moorfield acquired a site for development as student and key worker accommodation, and a branded product was created, named Domain. The goal for Domain was to become the UK market leader in quality, rather than quantity, of accommodation provision

Domain works with universities, NHS Trusts and local authorities to provide high quality affordable accommodation. It has built some 5,000 beds across major cities in the UK. Domain has also developed a partnership with a US based charity, IES, which provides educational programmes to American students in a variety of locations outside the US. As a result of this joint venture, Domain acquired a 50% interest in IES’s existing student residence on the Kings Road in Chelsea, London and manages this facility on behalf of the joint owners.

Domain's first and largest site to date, Atlantic Point, provides 962 rooms to the north of the city centre of Liverpool with a second site, Prospect Point, opposite the Royal Liverpool Hospital providing 565 rooms. Domain’s first site in Cardiff, Severn Point, is located next to the Cardiff University campus and has 288 rooms. A second scheme in Cardiff, Cambrian Point, is located in Maindy Road and provides 632 rooms and opened in August 2006. Mill Point, Manchester has 712 rooms. Trinity Point, Coventry has 353 rooms and Quay Point, Newcastle, has 695 rooms. In May 2006 Domain sold the majority of it’s portfolio (Atlantic Point, Severn Point, Prospect Point, Mill Point, Trinity Point, Quay Point, Cambrian Point) to the Brandeaux Group, who trade as Liberty Living, and who now operate and manage those properties.

However Domain remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Moorfield Group and the company continues to acquire and develop sites across the UK. As well as retaining its interest on the Kings Road, sites in Loughborough and Winchester have also been acquired.
